Ganderbal, Dec 28 (KNO): A renowned Gojri writer, Mohammad Manshah Khaki from Kachnambal in Ganderbal district has been a tireless advocate for preserving the Gojri language for the past three decades. A member of the Gujjar Bakerwal tribal community, Khaki is widely recognized for his exceptional contributions to linguistics and the safeguarding of his native culture. Growing up in challenging circumstances, Manshah had to walk 20 kilometers every day to attend school. Despite these hardships, his determination to succeed led him to earn a Master's degree. This achievement only fueled his resolve to protect and promote the Gojri language. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Khaki’s extensive work includes hundreds of volumes, comprising poems, folk songs, and translations of numerous books into Gojri. His contributions have played a pivotal role in preserving the linguistic heritage of the community. This year, Khaki’s dedication was acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who highlighted his efforts in his monthly Mann Ki Baat broadcast, citing Khaki as an example of commitment to cultural preservation. With his work, Khaki continues to inspire generations, emphasizing the importance of language in maintaining cultural identity. “As we move forward, it is crucial for the new generation to take responsibility for preserving our language. Writers and authors must continue their studies and contribute to this mission. Language is the soul of our culture, and it is our duty to safeguard it for the future,” Mohammad Manshah told KNO. A local student, Dr Shabir Ahmad Poswal said, “Mansha Sir’s dedication to preserving our language is an inspiration. His work shows us that no matter how difficult the journey, we must never give up on our culture and heritage.”—(KNO)
